Experience
Archie C. Purvis brings over twenty years of domestic and
international marketing and sales experience developed through
associations with such diverse companies as Capital Cities/ABC,
Polaroid, MCA and General Foods.
Mr. Purvis established Purvis Enterprises, Inc. (PEI) in 1994
to engage in the identification and development of new business
opportunities, investment in interactive/multimedia related
projects, and engage in theatrical and television program
acquisition and distribution. PEI is also involved in turnaround
situations in entertainment and non-entertainment related
ventures, seeks international co-production and financing,
and provides program production and distribution consulting
services to legal and financial firms. As a result of Mr.
Purvis' extensive involvement in the international media and
other trade activities, PEI also pursues and develops international
business ventures and relationships. The firm also consults
with new technology (Internet/interactive) ventures, television/radio
stations, cable entities, as well as with telephone and other
telecommunications companies. In July 1994, he was appointed
a Trustee by the U.S. Department of Justice, Central District
of California and was recently a senior consultant to a unique
digital encryption/digital rights management startup.
Prior to creating PEI, Mr. Purvis enjoyed a highly successful
career at Capital Cities/ABC, Inc. He served as President,
AMBROCO Media Group, Inc., an operating division of the ABC
Television Network Group, primarily engaged in the production
of television programming. In this capacity, Mr. Purvis oversaw
several independent production entities, including The Hemisphere
Group, Ultra Entertainment, Lou Rudolph Films, and others.
Previously, Mr. Purvis was President of Capital Cities/ABC
Video Productions, Inc. In this capacity, he had responsibility
over the production of programming and was in the unique roles
of overseeing ABC financed productions, many of which were
aired on competing television networks. Additionally, he introduced
programming opportunities that capitalized on the emerging
technologies, including CD-ROM, CD-Interactive, and other
multi-media applications.
In 1989, Mr. Purvis was named President, ABC Distribution
Company where he was responsible for the marketing and distribution
of Capital Cities/ABC owned and acquired programming to worldwide
media, including theatrical, international television, cable,
home video, educational, and other ancillary markets. He also
oversaw the company's licensing division, ABC Merchandising,
Inc. Prior to this, Mr. Purvis had been Senior Vice President,
ABC Distribution Company. He joined the American Broadcasting
Co. in 1980 as Vice President, Video Sales Division, and in
1985 was named Senior Vice President and General Manager,
ABC Video Enterprises, Inc.
Before joining ABC, Mr. Purvis was Vice President, Industrial
Marketing for MCA/Universal's Discovision Division. Regarded
as a pioneer in home video and multi-media he was responsible
for marketing, developing and distributing interactive programs,
and mass image storage and retrieval concepts utilizing the
optical videodisc.
In 2001, was appointed to the Advisory Board of REZN8 Inc.
Previously he was a member of the Board of Directors of GTE
California. In 1987, Mr. Purvis was nominated by the President
and received U.S. Senate confirmation to the Board of Directors
of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In addition, he
presently serves on the Boards of Directors of the YMCA, Metropolitan
L.A., Keep California Beautiful, the Yosemite National Institutes,
and is a member of the UCLA Board of Counselors. He was also
previously on the Board of Rebuild L.A. and acted as an advisor
to the Los Angeles Community College District's L.A. Prosper
program. In 1997 Mr. Purvis was named Los Angeles County Outstanding
Adopt-A-Highway Volunteer of the Year.
Mr. Purvis attended the University of Munich and City College
of New York and participated in the Stanford University Executive
Program. He served as an Intelligence Analyst for the U.S.
Army during his military term.
